From 2027, Singapore students will not be taking GCE “O” Level exam. A Singapore Education Certificate (SEC) Exam will replace the O Levels. Students affected will be from the Sec 1 2024 cohort. They will have more flexibility in choosing subjects combinations.
There will be three bands for each subjects. For example, Physics Band (G1) is equivalent to Normal Technical stream, Physics Band (G2) is equivalent to Normal Academic stream and Physics Band (G3) is equivalent to Express stream.
Effectively, they can take a mix of subjects at different band level which implies more flexibility.
